The New England nationalgrid has offered the safety tips listed below regarding Natural Gas safety.
However, if you smell natural gas there is a potential for a fire or explosion. Call 9-1-1 immediately to get the fire department on its way to your location. If you are in any type of building, evacuate outside immediately to a safe distance away from the building.

Smithfield Fire Department Responds to 4,452 Incidents in 2013

The Smithfield Fire Department ended 2013 responding to a total of 4,452 incidents.
Some of the notable incidents are as follows.
- Emergency Medical Services or Rescue Related: 3,115
- Automobile Accident: 214
- Public Assist: 111
- Hazardous Condition or Hazardous Material Spill: 102
- Brush Fire or Vegetation Fire: 44
- Structure Fire – well involved with fire: 16
- Automobile Fire: 11
The remaining incidents for 2013 were fire related such as electrical fires, cooking fires, rubbish fires, and other such fires that did not involve an entire structure.
